Many of our readers will be familiar with Ranger. The black and white dog with the two distinctive black eye masks, as of this writing he is the dog on the cover banner for Southwest English Setter Rescue’s (SWESR) Facebook page. Anyone with SWESR calendars from years past will have seen Ranger gracing a monthly page. His markings are naturally stunning, and, let’s be honest, it helps to have parents who know their way around a camera.
Kris is a 8 year young handsome boy that was left at a shelter in Oklahoma by his previous owner. Kris is being adopted by a previous SWESR adopter. He will join their St Bernard, Basset, and SWESR Quinn in Broken Arrow, OK. Lucky boy!
Samara (now Tarsi) is 7 years young and by all accounts, one of the most chill ES we’ve ever met. She’s a sweet and sensitive girl who just wants to be with her person. This lucky girl will be heading to GA to join her incredible family including SWESR Chiefie and Major.

Misty’s story is one of love, resilience, and the unbreakable bond between a family and their dog. It all began when Misty, a sweet little English Setter puppy who happened to be born deaf, was surrendered by her original owners when she was 3 1/2 months old. They didn’t want her because they felt that she would be unable to hunt due to her inability to hear.
Fate had better plans for Misty. She found her way into the loving care of her Southwest English Setter Rescue (SWESR) foster mom, Sherry. Sherry is a kind and caring woman with a heart of gold who would train and care for Misty until she could find her forever family.
In late November 2023 Kris came into rescue as one of three English Setters owner surrendered to an Oklahoma municipal shelter. This particular shelter works with SWESR volunteers, and they called an experienced SWESR foster, Deb, to pick up the dogs.
All three dogs were in rough shape. They were underweight. Their skin was terrible, and Deb knew they would never be adopted looking as bad as they did. The plan was for the dogs to be boarded, as there were no available foster homes with immediate openings for three pups.
Mary and her husband Mark live in the Blue Ridge mountains in North Carolina. They have owned six Llewellyn Setters over the years, four of which are SWESR alumni. Rio and Tracee are their most recent SWESR dogs.
Twelve year young Almondine who spent her life having puppies was recently rescued with her son, Edgar. This momma has never known the comforts of a home, soft bed or love. She will need a patient foster who is willing to give her a calm, quiet, understanding home and to teach her about being a house dog. She is in boarding near OKC, OK. Check back for updates!
Edgar is a shy 6 year young Setter who has lived outside with his mom Almondine his entire life. Although he is an adult he still looks to his mom for guidance and direction. While it is not mandatory that Edgar and Almondine be fostered together, there will be an adjustment period for Edgar if adopted alone. He is looking for a patient person with lots of love to give.
