Happy Henry is a 6 year old, 70+lb big boy who found himself in a desperate situation recently. After 2 seizures in a 24 hour period he was surrendered to a local shelter in NM. He’s not had any additional seizures since. Happy Henry is being adopted by his foster family in NM. Lucky boy!
Elise is a sweet 16 month old female ES who made her way from West Texas to our Advisory Vet in North Texas. She’s shy with other dogs and has a high prey drive for cats. She will be heading to Houston, TX to join her new dad and SWESR Nacho.
Dolly, whose original name was Birdie, was the product of a casual backyard breeder situation. When she was 8-weeks old, her owners gave her to family friends. This new family had a fairly chaotic life. From the time of her adoption Dolly spent up to 9 hours a day completely alone. The family did have a 5-year old child, who may have been Dolly’s only consistent human companion. Overall, though, this family had no idea how to care for a dog. They were neglectful. She had minimal human interaction, no training, no veterinary visits, no preventative health care, no safety. Understandably, Dolly was bored and lonely, and she acted out accordingly. She was a wild child. She escaped from them whenever she could. She chased cars, a behavior that constantly placed her in danger.
Lucy and Lefty are sweet, loving 7 1/2 years old and very bonded to each other so will need to stay together. They have a high escape drive so will need a 6′ securely fenced yard. Due to a high prey drive, no cats or small dogs. They are in a foster home in OK.
Romeo is a 5 year old Irish Red & White Setter from a hoarding situation in Colorado. Romeo is being adopted by his foster family near Fort Collins, CO.
Sherlock was rescued from a shelter in Texas. He has Setter feathers and loves people but clearly there’s some other breed(s) responsible for this stunning and sweet boy. This lucky boy is being adopted by his Setter experienced foster family near San Antonio, TX.
Eight year old Tucker is housetrained and used to living in a home with his people, including having furniture privileges. He is being adopted by his foster family in Colorado Springs after his vetting is completed.
Harvey came into rescue after being found as a wandering stray in Texas. He was brought to an animal shelter which is where SWESR found him. During Harvey’s vetting he was diagnosed as Chagas positive, so he spent some months with an experienced SWESR foster in Texas who provided him a settled home while he began Chagas treatment and could decompress from the stress of being a stray.
Augie is going to evolve into a genuinely spectacular dog for the right adopter. His previous owner told a rescuer “come get this dog, or I’m going to shoot him.” Needless to say, SWESR stepped up for Augie quickly.
We estimate him to be 5-years-old, and Augie is a big boy at 70lbs. He was an outdoor dog and neglected, so it says a lot of good things about Augie that he is doing as well as he is, learning to live indoors with rules he has to follow. He is sweet, affectionate, and very eager to please.
Sydney is a big, beautiful 12-year-old registered bench setter who came to live with us in February 2024. Sadly, Sydney’s owner had developed dementia and it became clear to her family that she could no longer care for Sydney. SWESR was asked to help find a new home for Sydney. Her breeder flew in from several states away to coordinate her transfer to our care.
