Leonidas

Leonidas

Meet Leonidas, isn’t he the cutest “bearded” English Setter youngster that you have ever seen? We don’t know his breeding background as he was acquired by a family as a free puppy with expectations that he would be a small dog and could act as a “guard” dog in their apartment. Leo was full of surprises, he grew and grew into this eight month old stunner and he needs more exercise than the unprepared family could give him. He looks and acts like an English Setter, just on the mellow side for his age, low prey drive and of course the beard.

Leo’s foster mom describes him as “perfect”.  He is house and crate trained and enjoys furniture privileges.  He relaxes on the bed while she works from home and is very well behaved for a youngster. He likes chew toys, but balls are his favorite, and he can entertain himself with a ball, tossing it, pouncing on it and chasing after it.  Leo prefers to be inside and when outside he slowly walks the yard sniffing. His foster home has a 6′ privacy fence, but he would probably be fine with a shorter fence as he has shown no interest in escaping.  He comes when called in the yard and he likes car rides.  Leo is currently in a foster home with two young Irish Setters and a senior chihuahua.  He does enjoy chasing his young playmates around the yard and rough housing; he also looks to them for direction.  He has not been exposed to cats, but has shown no interest in the squirrels or bunnies in his yard.  Because of his very low prey drive and escape tendencies, he would be a great introduction to the English Setter breed, but would not be suitable for anyone looking for a hunting dog.

Leo is not a candidate for a home with young children, he’s young and rambunctious and he could knock a little kid over. He also needs a home where the toys out in the home are his and not the children’s toys.

Leo is currently in a foster home near Denver, CO. Would you be  interested in bringing this sweet, young, goofy boy into your home?
