There are few things this writer enjoys more than a really good mystery: a whodunnit, a whydunnit, and a howdunnit. But I’ve come across a mystery I can’t solve, and I, on behalf of SWESR, need your help to get it resolved.
Why hasn’t Sampson found his forever home yet?
Sampson was pulled from a shelter after being found as a stray around Thanksgiving. He was in rough shape, but he pulled through his medical care well, which included being neutered. He immediately responded to his name and now answers to Sampson, Sammy, or Sam, and he’d appreciate if he could keep this name when he finds his new home.
He is extremely affectionate and adores being close to his foster mom. He absolutely loves car rides and running the perimeter of a fenced yard. He’s proven safe with a 4-foot fence and would dearly love to play with older children (or adults who have a child’s heart for fun) in the backyard. Fully mature at approximately 8 years old, Sampson still has the energy of a younger dog and greatly enjoys daily walks. He wants nothing more than to snuggle with his person on the sofa in the evening. Sampson lives calmly with two other male ES, although initially he did have to learn to share a prized resource with them: Foster Mom. He doesn’t resource guard toys or food.
Getting out of the house remains exciting and he can try to push past you to be first outside. He is not trying to escape, he just wants the fun to begin immediately. This pushing is easily resolved by ensuring he is secured on leash before opening the door. Sampson would do well as an only dog, provided his person was around more often than not. Otherwise, he has proven himself quite comfortable living with other canine friends if Mom and Dad have to work to put kibble in his bowl. He is a very good dog communicator and lets you know if he needs to go outside, wants attention, or if he needs a bit of space. Sampson sleeps on his dog bed in the bedroom with his Foster Mom and always allows her 8+ hours of uninterrupted sleep.
In short, Sampson is handsome, smart, loving, and friendly. He has many years left of active life and will make a great companion for some lucky person or family.
If you have any interest in adopting Sampson, please let SWESR know. Also, will you please share Sampson’s story on your social media pages so we can spread the word of this wonderful dog? As his foster mother says “He’s a great boy who deserves his own person.”
Let’s end this mystery once and for all and find Sampson his forever home!
SWESR rescues dogs in the Southwestern U.S.. We adopt dogs to homes throughout the U.S.. We have volunteer transport along major driving routes in the Southwest. Outside of the Southwest, adopters usually fly or drive to the foster home and then drive home.
“As always with FFtF posts, we thank you for sharing this post on your social media to cast as wide a net as possible for potential families for our FFtF dogs.”
