Mia – Just Rescued

Mia – Just Rescued

Mya (orange) and Mia (blue) are 1.5 year old sisters. They were acquired by a man as puppies with the intention of hunting them. He turned them in to a kill shelter in South Texas because they don’t hunt.

They are both as sweet as we all expect English Setters to be. Mia is very timid and afraid of loud noises and quick movements, for some reason she was either treated more harsh or didn’t handle the abuse she had to endure as well as her sister Mya. Mya and Mia give us several cautionary tales. First, about “littermate syndrome”. Mya and Mia don’t like each other and it is common for littermates acquired together to not do well together and littermates are also much more difficult to train than an individual puppy. The second cautionary tale is about the needs of ES puppies, training and expectations. These sisters have no leash skills and have not had even basic training, yet someone already determined they wouldn’t hunt. ES are a soft and sensitive breed and require early socialization, gentle training and reasonable age related expectations of their capabilities. Mya and Mia got none of this in their first 1.5 years of life and now it’s up to our rescue community will step up to give these girls what they need and deserve.

Mya and Mia are looking for separate foster homes. They are very different personality wise and will do best apart.
